Development of Low Cost Production of Fertilizer Management Technique in Jute Based Cropping Pattern.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

It is learnt that jute plant contains different nutrients elements at a great context. The intention of this study is to assess the performance of young jute plants as an alternate source of organic materials which can continuous use in crops and cropping pattern. From the experiment it was found that all the parameters i.e. plant height, base diameter, weight of green plant, fibre and stick yield were significantly increased in treatment of 30 days old jute plant incorporated to soil +3/4 RDF. The lowest yield performances were observed by control treatment. The highest plant height (2.62m), base diameter (15.5mm), green weight (32.90 t/ha), fibre (1.74 t/ha) and stick (3.59 t/ha) were achieved by 30 days old jute plant incorporated to soil +3/4 RDF treatment.

Objectives:

To observe the yield performance and soil fertility status due to addition of young jute plants.

Methodology:

The experiment was laid out by RCBD along with three replications. The unit plot size was 3.0m x 3.0m. Space between plots, blocks and around the field was 1.0m. The treatments were: control (T₁), 30 days old jute plant incorporated to soil (T₂), RDF (T₃), 30 days old jute plant incorporated to soil + ½ RDF (T₄) and 30 days old jute plant incorporated to soil +3/4 RDF (T₅). In the plots of treatments of T_2, T₄ and T₅ jute plants were grown and allowed to grow for 30 days then incorporated young plants to soil before establish the main crop in a cropping pattern. After final land preparation the chemical fertilizer were applied as basal dose. Half amount of N, ful dose of P, K and S from Urea, TSP, MoP and Gypsum were incorporated as per treatment design. Rest half amount of N was top dressed at the time of 45 days after sowing. In control plot no fertilizer was added. The seeds of O-72 were sown (main crop) on mid march at Borertek in central station, Dhaka. The intercultural operations such as weeding, thinning, spraying etc. were done as and when needed. A standard plant population was maintained during the field experiment.The plants of the experiments were harvested at the stage of 120 days old.

Achievement/Findings:

Incorporation of jute plants of 30 days old and using ¾ RDF in a combination may be a better choice to develop a low cost production technique for fertilizer management in jute based cropping pattern for jute production.
