The experiment was set up at Joydebpur in a two factor RCB Design with 3 replications. Planting was done on 3.12.04 on 3 × 3 cm spacing. Rice straw and water hyacinth were used as mulching in combination with 0, 1, 2 and 3 irrigations. Water hyacinths with three irrigations gave 32.26 t/ha yield, but it was statistically similar to two irrigations.

To find out the best mulch materials with optimum number of irrigation for potato production.

The experiment was set up at Joydebpur in a two factor RCB Design with 3 replications. Planting was done on 3.12.04 on 3 × 3 cm spacing. Rice straw and water hyacinth were used as mulching in combination with 0, 1, 2 and 3 irrigations. The crop was fertilized with 350-250-270-120-6 kg/ha of urea, TSP, MP, Gypsum and Boric acid. Half of urea and all other fertilizers were applied prior to planting and the rest half of urea was top dressed at 30 DAP. The crop was grown following usual cultural practices. Harvesting was done at 90 DAP.

Both the mulch with three irrigations was by far better over control for growth and yield of potato.However, water hyacinth was comparatively better than rice straw. Water hyacinth with three irrigations gave 32.26 t/ha tuber yield, but it was statistically similar to two irrigations. Again, rice straw with two or three irrigations were also similar in respect of tuber yield.Mulch and irrigation increased large tubers (>55mm) and decreased smaller (>28mm) tubers. It can be concluded from the results that two irrigation with water hyacinth mulch is good for optimum potato production.
