Abstract/ Executive Summary:

As there is no systematic information on the basic characteristics of different grades of jute and the corresponding yarns of different counts, the prime work of this project is to collect data on the basic properties of each grade of fiber and those of corresponding yarns of different popular counts at different stages of processes. For this reason eight types of different grades fibers were collected and characterized by physical parameter and after yarn processing they were again characterized by yarns physical properties and they were listed for further use. The nature of variation in the average working length of the fibers with the processing stages and in yarns of different counts has also been studied. The results revealed that there was a close relationship between fiber length and yarn processing different stages

Objectives:

Optimization of batch composition involved in producing low cost light weight jute yarns by method of linear/non linear programming.

Methodology:

Jute fiber of different grades such as BWB, BWC, BWD, BWE, BTB, BTC, BTD, and BTE were collected and they were characterized by fineness, bundle strength, bursting energy etc at standard methods. With 100% of individual grade of fiber, yarns of 5,8,10 and 14 lbs/spy count were processed. Slivers from different stages of yarn processing i.e. breaker card, finisher card and third drawing were also obtained. The fiber length distribution in yarns of different counts and in corresponding slivers drawn from different stages of processing in comparison to raw, unprocessed fiber of the same grade were studied by measuring length of 1000 fibers from each sample. The yarn characteristics such as tensile strength, elongation at break, actual count, twist per inch, twist factor, quality ratios etc. were determined as per standard method at room temperature and humidity.

Achievement/Findings:

The average fiber length is decreased with the increase of different processing stages and also with the decrease of the linear density i.e. counts of yarns. There was an expectation that increase in tensile strength, elongation at break and quality ratio and decrease of twist per inch with the increase of linear density of the yarn. But in case of yarn of different counts, in ascending or descending order, this regular trend is not maintained. Moreover,, no systematic results on working fiber lengths are observed, grade wise, within each of the count of the yarn. In the view result, no fiber-yarn property relationship for each grade of fiber can be established.
