An experiment was conducted at TCRC, BARI, Gazipur to find out the effect of Tricho-compost, Poultry litter, Staple bleaching powder and Boric acid in controlling common scab of potato( var. Diamant). A total of 6 (six) treatments including control were selected for soil and seed treatment. Tricho-compost (3 t/ha), Poultry litter (5 t/ha) and Staple bleaching powder (15 kg/ha) were applied into the soil at 15 days before planting, while staple bleaching powder (500 ppm) and Boric acid (1.5%) applied as seed treating agents. Seed treatment with Boric acid @ 1.5% before planting gave the best result among all the treatments to control common scab in terms of disease incidence and severity. However, the germination and yield were not affected by the treatments.

To find out the effective control measure using different chemicals and bio-fertilizer against potato scab under field condition.
The experiment was conducted at TCRC, BARI, Gazipur during December 2010 to March 2011 with the potato variety viz. Diamant. A total of six treatments were included such as Tricho-compost (T1), Poultry litter (T2), Seed treatment with staple bleaching powder (T3), Soil application with staple bleaching powder (T4),Seed treatment with Boric acid (T5) and Control (T6). Tricho-compost (3 t/ha), Poultry litter (5 t/ha) and Staple bleaching powder (15 kg/ha) were applied by mixing with soil of each row of the plot at 15 days before tuber planting, whereas two treatments applied on seeds i. e. staple bleaching powder (500 ppm) and Boric acid (1.5%) before planting. In case of control treatment only tubers were planted in the plot. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with four replications. Recommended doses of fertilizers (N: P2O5: K2O: S @ 160:100:160:20 Kg/h) were applied and other agronomic practices were done accordingly. Data on germination, scab incidence, severity and yield were recorded. Scab incidence was calculated as total number of infected tubers divided by total number of harvested tuber and multiplied by 100. Tubers harvested from each plot were graded for determination of scab index. Tubers were scored individually for scab occurrence according to the scale of Bjor and Roer (1980) with some modifications.
