Secondary Yield Trial with F1c5 Clonal Hybrids of Potato

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Performance of 6 hybrid clones of potato was evaluated with check variety BARI Alu-7 (Diamant), BARI Alu-8 (Cardinal) and BARI Alu-28(Lady-Rosetta) in two locations (Joydebpur and Debigonj). Significant yield variation was observed among the clonal hybrids from location to location as well as within location. At Joydebpur, among the six hybrid clone, hybrid clone 9.35 produced the highest significant yield (39.31 t/ha) followed by the hybrid clone 9.125 (37.78 t/ha), 9.44 (35.56 t/ha), 9.112 (35.11 t/ha). All the check varieties were in lower position than the tested genotypes. At Debigonj, hybrid clone 9.35 produced the highest significant yield (74.01 t/ha) followed by hybrid clone 9.44 (69.08 t/ha) and 9.125 (66.96 t/ha). From both locations 9.35 was in highest promising clone. The lowest yield 24.04 and 56.73 t/ha was found in check BARI Alu-28 from Joydebpur and Debigonj, respectively. On an average, highest yield found by 9.35 (56.66 t/ha) followed by 9.125 (52.38) and 9.44 (52.32 t/ha). Considering all the character especially yield production per plot and dry matter content hybrid clones 9.35, 9.44, 9.91, 9.112 and 9.125 could be selected for further evaluation under AYT experiment.

Objectives:

Selection of superior genotypes for variety development

Methodology:

This study was carried out at TCRC, BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur and BSPC, Debigonj, Panchagarh with 6 genotypes selected from last five consecutive years (TCRC, 2008-2012) along with three checks: BARI Alu-7 (Diamant)), BARI Alu-8 (Cardinal) and BARI Alu 28 (Lady-Rosetta). The unit plot size was 3.0  3.0 m. Whole tubers were planted with a spacing of 60 x 25 cm. Planting was done in the last week of November, 2012. Fertilizers were applied @ 325-220-250-120kg/ha of urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash and gypsum, respectively. Design was RCB with three replications. Data were taken on percent emergence at 30 DAP, plant height, number of stem/hill, foliage coverage at 60 DAP, Plant vigour at 60 DAP, number of tuber/hill, weight of tuber/hill and yield/plot, dry matter, tuber shape, color, %grading by number and weight. Data were analyzed statistically and means were separated by using DMRT through Mstatc statistical computer program
