The experiment was conducted in order to develop hybrid orchids through in vitro culture. Seeds were germinated within 30-50 days in MS medium supplemented with different concentrations and combinations of growth regulators. The highest percentage (99%) of seed germination was observed in 2.0 mg/l NAA. Significant variations were observed among the growth parameters of shoot length, leaf number, leaf length, leaf width, root number and root length due to addition of growth regulators. However, the highest shoot length (8.13 cm),leaf number(5.5) and root length (2.17 cm) were observed in 0.5 mg/l IAA + 1.0 mg/l IBA whereas, 2.0 mg/l NAA was found most suitable in producing the highest number of roots 911.02).

To investigate the effect of different growth regulators on initiation of PLBs, plantlet regeneration and the subsequent growth and development of Dendrobium hybrids
Five and half months old crossed pods were used as explant. The pods were washed with detergent in running tap water and surface sterilized by submerging in 0.1% HgCl solution for 15 min. Then dipped in 70% alcohol for few seconds and flamed in a laminar air flow cabinet and washed by sterile distilled water. The pods were then bisected longitudinally with a sterile scalpel and the seeds were taken by forceps and transferred to the agar solidified MS medium with different concentrations of growth regulators.

Outcome:The developed hybrid orchid will be useful to the growers and may contribute in the production of orchid flowers.
Result:The results from the present study suggest that 2.0 mg/l NAA found suitable for seed germination and 0.5 mg/l IAA and 1.0 mg/l IBA was the best for the growth of Dendrobium hybrid orchid.
