An experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during 2012-2013 to observe the resistance of 15 brinjal varieties against little leaf disease. Among 15 varieties, one variety showed highly resistant (HR) reaction namely local variety Shuktara and eleven varieties showed resistant (R) reaction against little leaf disease. Rest three varieties showed moderately susceptible (MS) reaction to little leaf disease. The highest yield (10.89 t ha-1) was recorded from BARI begun- 1 and the lowest were obtained from BARI begun-8.
SCREENING, LITTLE LEAF, BRINJAL
Pest Management
To locate sources of resistance of brinjal varieties to little leaf disease.
The experiment was conducted for screening of brinjal varieties against littleleaf disease at RARS, Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi 2012-2013 using 15 varieties including 7 local ones. The seeds were sown on November 2, 2012 and transplanted in the main field on December 2, 2012. The experimental design was RCBD with three replications. The unit plot size was 3 m x 2 m and spacing was 60 cm x 50 cm. Fertilizers and manures were applied as per recommendation. Irrigation and other cultural practices were performed as and when necessary. Data were recorded on number of littleleaf infected plant, plant height, number of fruits plant-1, branches plant-1 and yield. Littleleaf disease of brinjal was recorded with self developed disease scale (0-5). The value of developed scale was: 0= No infection (HR), 1= 1-10% plant infections (R), 2=11-20% plant infection (MR), 3= 21-30% plant infection (MS), 4=31-50% plant infection (S) and 5= above 50% plant infection (HS). The recorded data were analyzed statistically following Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT).
Annual Report 2012-13
It was observed that one variety showed highly resistant reaction namely Shuktara local variety, 11 varieties showed resistant reaction and rest 3 varieties showed moderately susceptible reaction against little leaf disease of brinjal. The highest plant height (92.47 cm) was recorded from BARI begun-1 and the lowest (39.33 cm) was obtained from local variety Mahishamura.
