This study was conducted in plastic pots at BARI, Gazipur. 8 (eight) wheat genotypes and 2 (two) varieties were considered for trial. 4 (four) levels of salinities i.e. 4dS/m, 8dS/m, 12dS/m and 16dS/m were considered for irrigation water. Among the ten genotype/varieties, 5 (five) of them i.e. BARI Gom-25, BAW-1146, BAW-1147, BAW-1150 and BAW-1157 performed well upto salinity of 12dS/m. These 5 (five) genotypes may be considered for further trial for screening best one against salinity.

The objectives were to: (i) screen out the wheat genotypes against different levels of soil salinity; (ii) evaluate the effectiveness of saline water irrigation
The experiment was conducted in plastic pots. 10 (ten) genotypes/varities (BARI Gom-25, BARI Gom-28, BAW-1130, BAW-1138, BAW-1140, BAW-1146, BAW-1147, BAW-1150, BAW-1153, BAW-1157) were tested along with BARI Gom-25 as a cheek under different levels of irrigation water salinity. Seeds of different wheat genotypes were sown in pots on 22 November, 2012. 4-5 seeds were sown in each pot. Each pot was filled up with sandy loam fresh (Non-saline) soils. Irrigation was applied with fresh water for proper germination. 4(four) gazi tanks were used for 4 levels of water salinity. Salinity was created artificially in irrigation water with a mixture of Cacl2 and Nacl at a ratio of 1:2. Irrigation was applied through drip systems. Recommended doses of fertilizers were used. Soil and water salinities were monitored at weekly interval. The crop was harvested on 13 March, 2013. All physiological and yield contributing characters were recorded. The treatments were T1 = Saline water irrigation at 4 dS/m ; T2 = Saline water irrigation at 8 dS/m; T3 = Saline water irrigation at 12 dS/m ; T5 = Saline water irrigation at 16 dS/m. Each treatment was replicated thrice.

This is 1st year study. There were some technical errors in the first year experiment among the ten genotypes. 5 of them viz. BARI Gom-25, BAW-1146, BAW-1147, BAW-1150 and BAW-1157, performed well upto 12dS/m of irrigation water salinity during 1st year trial, those may be considered for further trial
