A field experiment was conducted at PRC, Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi season of 2002-2003 to find out the suitable pulses as relay for the higher and economically viable yield. Lathyrus, lentil, chickpea and fieldpea were relayed into t.aman rice field. It was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Fieldpea produced the highest grain yield (1480 kg/ha) which was identical to lathyrus (1450 kg/ha) and lentil (1310 kg/ha). The lowest grain yield (980 kg/ha) was produced in chickpea. The gross return was the highest (35370 Tk./ha) in lentil and the lowest (18125 Tk/ha) was in lathyrus. The net return was the highest (28970 Tk./ha) in lentil and the lowest (8625 Tk./ha) was in wheat. The benefit cost ratio was the highest (5.58) in lentil but the lowest (1.74) was in wheat.

Crop-Soil-Water Management
To find out the suitable pulses as relay crop for the higher and economically viable yield.
The experiment was conducted at PRC, Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi season of 2002-2003 under rainfed condition. There were four types of pulses i.e. lathyrus lentil, chickpea and fieldpea. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 5m x 5m. The sowing date was 28 October 2002. Lathyrus , lentil, chickpea and fieldpeas’ varieties were BARI Kkhesary-1, BARI Masur-4, BARI Chhola-5 and local (Norail), respectively and seed rates were 50 kg/ha, 50 kg/ha, 40 kg/ha and 60 kg/ha, respectively. Seeds were primed over night before sowing and then seeds were sown in transplant aman rice as broadcast just after drained out the water. Fertilizers were used 20-40-20 kg/ha N-P205-K20 before 2 days of seed sown except N. Nitrogen was applied at 20 DAE. Intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. Fieldpea, Lentil, Chickpea and Lathyrus were harvested on 2 March,7 March and 30 March and 1 April/2003, respectively . Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot and grain yield (kg/ha) was recorded from whole plot. Surveyed wheat yield and its' production cost. All types of production costs were recorded to find out the benefit cost ratio. The recorded data were analysed statistically and the means were separated by LSD.
Annual report of Pulses Agronomy,PRC,BARI,Ishurdi,Pabna
Twenty thousand only
It was identified that, relay lentil is more suitable in concern of yield, economic net return and BCR than wheat cultivation under medium high to medium low lands.
