Effect of Different Levels of Plant Growth Regulators Applied in Pda Media on Growth, Yield Attributes and Yield of Agaricus Bisporus

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Two plant growth regulators gibberellic acid (GA₃ ) and naphthaline acetic acid (NAA) were used at 0, 05, 10, 15, 20 and 25 ppm concentration to find out their effect on mycelial growth in PDA (potato dextrose agar) media, yield attributes and yield of button mushroom. The highest mycelial growth rate (MGR) (2.91 mm/day) was recorded at 25 ppm level of GA₃ followed by 15 ppm (2.75 mm/day) and 20 ppm level (2.61mm/day) of GA₃ . The lowest MGR (1.66 mm/day) was recorded in control treatment. The days from casing to primordia initiation (DCPI) ranged from 13.5 to 15.50 and it was the lowest (13.50) at 10 ppm level of GA₃ followed by 20 ppm level of GA₃ (14.00) which was statistically similar to 20 ppm NAA (14.25). The total number of fruit body, biological efficiency and economic yield were the highest at 20 ppm level of NAA. The highest economic yield (439.01g/ 3 kg bag) was obtained at 20 ppm level of NAA followed by 10 ppm level of GA₃ (411.58 g/ 3 kg bag) and 15ppm NAA (406.77 g/ 3 kg compost).

Objectives:

To study the performance of different plant growth regulators viz; GA₃, NAA and their level on the growth, yield attributes and yield of white button mushroom applied in PDA media which is simple, easy technique and most cost effective.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in the laboratory and culture house of National Mushroom Development and Extension Centre, Savar, Dhaka, from December 2006 to March 2008. The experiment was carried out to study the effect of two growth regulators viz: GA₃ and NAA with 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 15 ppm, 20 ppm, and 25 ppm level of gibberellic acid (GA₃ ), naphthaline acetic acid (NAA) on growth, yield attributes and yield of A. bisporus. The experiment was laid out in CRD with four replications. The experimental unit was polypropylene bag (18 X 12 inch). The study consisted of 11 treatments. The level of treatment of GA₃ and NAA was 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 ppm for each PGR with control (0 level) with 4 replications. Colonies diameters of mycelium grown on PDA media of white button mushroom were recorded after 48 h interval. This investigation was continued for consecutive 8 days. The experiment was laid out in CRD experimental design with 11 treatments with 4 replications. Data were statistically analyzed and means were computed following Duncan’s Multiple Test.

Achievement/Findings:
