Yield of Cauliflower as Affected by Fertilization with Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulfur, Boron, Molybdenum and Manure

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Results of the experiment conducted on Shallow Red Brown Terrace Soil with different rates of N, P, K, S, B and Mo with cow dung and compost indicated that the application of N ₁₂₀P ₁₂₀K ₁₀₀S₂₀B₁Mo_0.20C_0.5(T₁₆) had the best effect on the yield of cauliflower followed by N₁₂₀P ₁₈₀K ₁₀₀S₂₀B₁Mo_0.20CD₁₀(T₇).

Objectives:

To study the performance of different combinations of N, P, K, S, B, and Mo with organic manure m respect to yield characteristics of cauliflower.

Methodology:

An experiment on cauliflower was conducted in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD ) with three replications on a high land belonging to Salna Series under Madhupur Tract. The location of the site was at 24.0°N latitude and 90.25°E longitude with an elevation of 8.4 meter above the sea level. The soil samples representing 0-10 cm depth were collected from different spots of the experimental site and analyzed for their chemical characteristics. Soil pH was determined by glass electrode pH meter. Total N by Micro Kjeldahl method NH₄- N , P, and S were determined by spectrophotometer and Zn was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Each block consisted of sixteen plots and individual plot size was 2.4 m x 1.8 m accommodating 12 plants, at a row to row and plant to plant distance of 60 cm. The treatment combinations involving N , P, K., S, B, Mo, cowdung (CD) and compost (C) are presented. Where subscripts to N, P, K , S, Mo and B indicate their dose in kg /ha and CD & C t/ha. Cauliflower was harvested at 51 days after transplanting. The data were collected on market able yield, fresh yield per plant and total yield (t/ha). For chemical analysis of the plants, samples were collected randomly from each plot and oven dried at 72°C for 72 hours . Dried samples were ground using a grinding machine. The plant samples of different treatment s were analyzed for N, P and K. Nitrogen content were estimated through Micro Kjeldahl following colorimetric method, phosphorus and potassium by vanadomolydate method.

Achievement/Findings:

From the findings of this experiment it can be concluded that the application of N ₁₂₀P ₁₂₀K ₁₀₀S₂₀B₁Mo_0.20C_0.5 (T₁₆) had the most favourable influence with respect to yield of cauliflower followed by N₁₂₀P ₁₈₀K ₁₀₀S₂₀B₁Mo_0.20CD₁₀(T₇). . Therefore, it may be recommended that higher doses of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium with appropriate doses of S, B, Mo fertilizers and manure is effective for optimum yield of cauliflower.
